Q&A with WordPlay T. Jay: How do you give credit for background vocals?

This week, WordPlay T. Jay went back in his videos and answered some questions and comments from his YouTube viewers.

On the video titled “How to Get Your Music on Pandora and How to get a Pandora Station (Step by Step Tutorial)” Rico Royal said, “Man you made that so easy I would live for you to help me.”

A: I can definitely help you. Text the letter Q to 253-300-0702, then type your question.

On the video titled “How To Pick the Right Band or Artist Name” Kid Kalla said, “I’m struggling for a name what do you think about kid kalla kalla means money in Hawaiian and since I’m from America and African American most people don’t don’t but lmk.”

A: I think its cool. Run it by some Hawaiian natives too to see.

Kalla: K thanks but the true question is do u think it’s like one of those names that people will remember and be like oh it’s (name)

TJ: It sounds distinct and has a nice ring to it...so I think its cool.

Kalla: @WordPlay T. Jay ight cool was just making sure it wasn’t forgettable cuz trust me you will no me and hear that name again.

On the video titled “What is Songtrust and the Benefits for You - Songtrust Review” Opia ndudi said, “Thanks for sharing this video. Anyone who's got a clue of a reliable playlist distribution services should fill me in.”

A: Best playlist strategy is create your own list of playlist you want to be on and message those curators. Its time consuming but it's worth it to do it that way.

On the video titled “Distrokid Users: How to Link Your Instagram Profile to your Music in Stories?” Coolhand Cal asked, “So I added my music in distrokid. Song appears in all other stores and It say it was added to Instagram yet my song does not show up when I try to add to stories. Any idea why that might happen?”

A: It takes a little while for songs to be ingested into the IG system. Give it a few weeks. The best way to get around this is to share from Spotify...go to the track in Spotify, hit share, and choose IG Stories.

Cal: WordPlay T. Jay appreciate it. You were right I checked back today and it’s there. Check me out if you have time feedback welcome https://youtu.be/PNEbewMmw7Q

On the video titled “How to Register Multiple Songs to the Copyright Office” Nonconformity asked, “Okay one more question - kinda related/kinda not but how do you appropriately give credit to people for minor parts (not verses) in the song? ie: I asked two people to send me short background vocals for loops. They were ware that there was no payment involved and sent it anyway, but I’d still like to credit them. Is that just something I do in distribution and not in actual copyright? Since it was still my creative direction. Thanks in advance!”

A: Do that in the distribution credits.
